Designing Four Barn-Style Family Homes in Biggleswade

The design was phased, beginning with two family homes and expanding to four once the initial planning was secured. To achieve the desired barn conversion aesthetic, the design featured timber-effect cladding, a contrasting brick plinth, and traditional red brick roofs. The choice of dark window frames further enhanced the contemporary-yet-rural look, creating a striking final impression.

As these were new builds, the project required a full plans application. This is a far more detailed process than for a simple extension, with greater scrutiny on every aspect of the design. Due to the site's location, highways access and visibility were a particular concern for the local council. Our design team had to develop careful solutions to overcome these challenges.

In-depth information was also required for landscaping and ecology to ensure the new homes enhanced their natural surroundings.
